The France international defender was courted by the Red Devils and was told that they would be delighted to have him join their squad and he, in turn, decided to sign for them. Varane decided to leave Real Madrid after spending a decade with the Los Blancos and he revealed that the only club he thought of joining was the Red Devils because they have been a club he has loved and followed while he was still a kid.

It was also gathered that Varane was a huge fan of former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand and it was another reason why he chose the Red Devils as his next club. Reports claim that several other clubs approached Varane and asked him to sign for them but there was no way he would have turned down the chance to sign for the Red Devils, tried to sign him back in the summer transfer window of 2011 while he was still at Lens before signing for Madrid instead.

United manager Olé Gunnar Solskjær has stated that he is planning to create a center-back partnership that would come close to the one Ferdinand and Vidic had at the club and with Maguire set to be partnered by Varane this season, many believe that he may finally be helping to create his dream center-back pairing.

Vidic has now said that he is happy to see that United have finally signed a proven central defender and said that he hopes Varane would settle into the club quickly and help them fight for titles both domestically and in Europe this new season.
