SPURS KEEN ON VIDIC 2.0

Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly eyeing a summer move for Juventus defender Merih Demiral whose style of play has been likened to that of Manchester United legend Nemanja Vidic. This is according to the report from popular Italian transfer news portal Calciomercato.

It was reported that Spurs have a concrete interest in Turkish international Demiral and that Juventus have set a price for the player. The North London club might need to pay the €40m (£34.8m) transfer fee set for the 19-cap Turkish national team player if they want to sign him when the summer transfer window reopens in the coming weeks.

Immediate past Italian Serie A champions Juventus are in dire need of cash and they need to sell players to ease that financial burden. Only two players, Dejan Kulusevski and Matthijs De Ligt, are seen as non-transferable ahead of the resumption of the transfer window.

Turkish centre back Demiral is only 23 but he has adequate Champions League experience from his time with the Old Lady.He has been linked with several English teams in the past including Spurs’ North London rivals Arsenal. Demiral has a similar defensive style with Nemanja Vidic.

Nemanja Vidic established himself as a quality centre back at Manchester United and he went on to captain the club. His centre back partnership with Rio Ferdinand is one of the best in the history of the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur have struggled defensively this season with the likes of Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez the most culpable at the heart of the defence. The other two centre backs at the club are Joe Rodon and the experienced Toby Alderweireld.

Tottenham Hotspur signed Welshman Rodon from English Championship outfit Swansea City last summer for £11m and he’s largely inexperienced in top flight football, while Belgian international Alderweireld is in the final years of his career.
