Carrick issues Liverpool warning

Even though Liverpool may have experienced a disastrous start to the 2012/13 campaign, Michael Carrick claims that Sunday’s clash against the Anfield outfit must be taken seriously. The former Tottenham midfielder says that form goes completely out of the window for such feisty encounters and the Red Devils must be on top form if they are to succeed against their bitter rivals.

It would be fair to say that there was plenty of optimism on Merseyside following Brendan Rodgers’ appointment over the summer, yet such hopes have quickly faded following a dreadful start to the new season. The Reds are still looking for their first top flight win of the new campaign and, in a statistic that is sure to fire up the United team, they could be sent crashing to the foot of the table should results go against them this weekend.

United on the other hand have started the season relatively productively and barring that shock defeat to Everton, they will be relatively happy with their current position. The club currently find themselves in 2nd place and should results go favourably, they could actually lead the division by the end of the weekend. All of the above means that there is already plenty at stake for both outfits ahead of Sunday’s encounter.

However, Carrick has stated that the form book will well and truly go out of the window when the teams take to the field. He has warned his teammates to issue extreme caution against the Reds, telling the media, “These games are a one-off – form goes out of the window. The atmosphere is that little bit more special and the fans are certainly up for it more. The fact that Liverpool haven’t had the results they wanted so far doesn’t really come into it – that’s not on our minds. It’s about us going there and doing the right things. We’re expecting Liverpool to bring their best game and we’ll have to bring our best game too to get a result.”

VIDIC MISSES OUT

The skipper of Manchester United, Nemanja Vidic, didn’t feature for his team in the Premier League match against Liverpool which was played at Anfield on Sunday.

Everybody was shocked by Vidic’s exclusion from the team, but, after the match, Sir Alex Ferguson made it quite clear that Vidic was not dropped. He was just rested because he was having a bit of pain in his knee. He has just recovered from a serious knee injury. So, the team management decided to go into this match without him so that he could get a bit of rest.

In December 2011, Vidic had injured his knee while playing in a Champions League match against Basel. It had been confirmed later on that Vidic’s injury was quite serious and he would not be able to play for United in the remaining part of the season. Vidic made a comeback to the United squad at the start of the ongoing season, but, the Serbian defender hasn’t looked at his best in a few matches that he has played in the current season so far.

That’s why, there were speculations that Vidic was dropped due to his current form. But, in the post match press conference, Sir Alex Ferguson said that Vidic’s form had nothing to do with his exclusion from the team. Had he not felt that pain in his knee, he would definitely have been included in the first XI. He would be back for the next match against Newcastle United.

The United manager was very happy with the team’s performance against Liverpool. United won the match by 2-1. As per Ferguson, it was not an easy match. Liverpool is a very good team and they fought really hard in the match. But, it’s good that the United boys were clinical in their approach in the last 10 minutes and won the match. Hopefully, the team would continue its winning streak in the further matches as well.

VIDIC BACK IN TRAINING

The Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that the captain Nemanja Vidic is back in full training for the 2008 European cup champions.

He has also said that Nemanja Vidic is likely to be back into the first-team when Manchester United take on Everton in the opening day of the Premier league season. Manchester United failed to capture any major title last season, which was first time in four seasons that such an event was happening. This coupled with the fact that Sir Alex Ferguson also managed to see Manchester city lift the title ahead of them means that there are likely to focus more on the domestic title.

Nemanja Vidic has proven to be one of the best defenders in the country since his arrival for just £ 7 million back in 2006. However, the defender suffered a major injury midway through the last season. The triple anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered by the 31-year-old was thought to be so severe that many doubted that he would never play again. However, he is now fit and ready and is likely to be back much earlier than expected. Ferguson, though, have said that it is highly unlikely that Chris Smalling will be in the squad for the Everton match.

“Jonny has had an operation. I am not sure he will start the season but he won’t be far away. Chris Smalling has done a bit of training. The ruptured groin muscle he had certainly needed a lot of attention. He is gradually progressing and I expect him to start the season. Vidic will start the season, I am sure of that. He is still at the level of doing good amounts of training but not in the competitive sense that the others have done so it was pointless bringing him out here,” said Ferguson.

VIDIC RETURNS TO TRAINING

Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic has begun the pre-season training in a bid to return to full fitness prior to the start of the new season.

It has been reported in the last few days that Nemanja Vidic will be returning to the pre-season training much earlier than expected so that he will be able to start the season in the best possible manner. The 30-year-old defender suffered a long-term injury in the middle of the last campaign. The injury suffered in a match against FC Basel in the Champions League proved more fatal for the player.

There are also reports that this injury could force Nemanja Vidic to retire from playing football. Further, the Serbian defender has proved the strength he has within himself by returning to playing football much earlier than expected. One of the main reasons for Manchester United finishing the last season without any trophy in their hands was the absence of Nemanja Vidic. It was a disastrous season for Manchester United in many ways after they failed to win a trophy, while also they were knocked out of the European competition at very early stages. This is likely to impact the club in terms of finances this season.

As a result of not being able to compete in the latter stages of the European competition, Manchester United were not able to compete with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City when it comes to signing Eden Hazard from Lille. Ultimately, the Belgian midfielder signed for Chelsea after agreeing a contract worth around £ 170,000 per week. Manchester United then turned their attention towards a much cheaper alternative in the form of £ 12 million signing from Borussia Dortmund –Kagawa. Nemanja Vidic will also be hoping to make his international return for the World Cup qualifiers.

NOT MOVING

Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic’s agent has said that the rumours linking him with a move to Italy are rubbish. Nemanja Vidic is currently nursing an injury, which has kept him out for most of the campaign.

He is expected to be back only by August. However, there have already been reports linking him with a move to Italian club Juventus. Juventus are finally back at the top of the Italian Serie A. It has taken them six years to regain their footing in the top division of Italian football following their relegation to the second division in 2006 after being found guilty of the match fixing.

Nemanja Vidic is being spoken of as one of the signings, as Juventus look to build a team capable of challenging for the Champions League once again. It has a long time since an Italian team won the Champions League. Juventus are in the rebuilding stage whereby they look the real deal. However, Nemanja Vidic’s agent has said that there is no truth in rumours linking him with a move to Juventus. The Italian club are currently three points ahead of current Champions AC Milan in the Italian Serie A table with only three matches remaining in the season.

“Vidic is still out with a cruciate ligament injury. You have to consider that he has a non-EU passport and that would make it difficult for him to arrive in Serie A. I can assure you that I have never spoken with Juventus about Nemanja,” Martina told Tuttomercatoweb regarding the future of Nemanja Vidic. Meanwhile, the club have now confirmed that their 30-year-old captain will be fit for the next season. Manchester United are hoping to have the player on the pre-season, which will be a massive boost for Sir Alex Ferguson.

VIDIC BACK SOONER RATHER THAN LATER

One of Manchester United’s most important defenders, Nemanja Vidic had been out of the side’s playing squad due to an injury that he sustained while playing against Basel in the Champions League.

Manchester United lost that match, in December, and the team’s physicians had originally predicted that the defender could be out for as long as 12 months.
