UNITED LOSE OUT

Manchester United suffered the first defeat of the season at the hands of their arch rivals Liverpool. Even worse still was the fact that this defeat was suffered at Anfield, which is a place where United do not want to lose because of the bargaining rights.

This result meant that David Moyes was still searching for his first win against one of Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea in his managerial career. Manchester United only managed a dull0-0 draw against Chelsea in the home match last weekend. Liverpool were extremely good from the word go and they did not take long to take the lead.

Daniel Sturridge converted a Daniel Agger flick on after just 4 min. In the first half, Liverpool dominated the match completely with an incredible tempo that was missing in some of the home matches last season. Even though they resorted to counter attacking football in the second half, Manchester United were unable to equalise. United have not been great going forward since the start of the season, but Vidic is confident that the team will be able to recover its attacking instance sooner rather than later.

However, he did accept that the team needed to improve on a number of areas across the pitch. Moyes has been looking to strengthen the team in the transfer window but with no results so far.

“From every game you can take positives and negatives, even from this one. In the first game against Swansea, we scored four. But I do not judge matches on goals. I think both games against Liverpool and Chelsea were both really solid, we didn’t give our opponents anything. Not scoring is not like us but it is still the beginning of the season and we have so many games to play, some tough games,” said Vidic.
