UNITED LOSE OUT

Manchester United suffered the first defeat of the season at the hands of their arch rivals Liverpool. Even worse still was the fact that this defeat was suffered at Anfield, which is a place where United do not want to lose because of the bargaining rights.

This result meant that David Moyes was still searching for his first win against one of Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea in his managerial career. Manchester United only managed a dull0-0 draw against Chelsea in the home match last weekend. Liverpool were extremely good from the word go and they did not take long to take the lead.

LAST 12 MONTHS

Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic has entered into the final 12 months of his contract with the club. This has started rumours that the Serbian defender could finally be set for an exit from Old Trafford after several years of constantly being linked with a move.

The 31-year-old has just returned to pre-season after suffering numerous injury problems in the last few years. Vidic and Rio Ferdinand has been one of the best partnerships in English football over the last few years, but United have been unable to pair them together for most of the matches in the last two years.

ASIA TOUR

Manchester United will be making the pre-season tour to Asia, which will also be their first pre-season tour without manager Sir Alex Ferguson at the helm after a long time.

Captain Nemanja Vidic has spoken about the delight of visiting Asia once again. This is not the first time Manchester United will be touring this region of the world. In fact, the highest concentration of Manchester United fans come from this region and the club has been able to significantly boost its revenues through shirt sales in this region. David Moyes and his men will be visiting regions like Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Australia over the next few weeks as part of their pre-season tour.

Who is odds on to win the FA Cup this year?

Although some of the clubs can be guilty of failing to take it as seriously as they should, most fans of Premier League clubs still value the FA Cup – and it is also still a popular choice when it comes to football betting.

Unsurprisingly most sports betting sites have Manchester United amongst the strong favourites, with odds of 4/1, and their rivals from the blue half of town are also rated strongly at 9/2 by most bookmakers. Chelsea – who have odds of 4/1 and 9/2, depending on what site you visit, are also amongst the favourites, but from a betting point of view, none of these clubs will really bring much of a return.

VIDIC ON COMEBACK TRAIL

The Serbian defender Nemanja Vidic has been one of the important players for Manchester United over the last few seasons. He has been sorely missed by the team last year, as he missed several matches.

He has been slowly brought back to full fitness by the manager Sir Alex Ferguson this season. He is expected to play a key role in the last 16 Champions league second leg encounter against Real Madrid on Tuesday night. United come into the match after having done the first leg 1-1, thus giving them the advantage of an away goal.

Real Madrid have one of the potent attacking line-ups in Europe due to the presence of players like Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Angel di Maria. Despite this, the United captain Nemanja Vidic reckons that Madrid could run out of ideas when they take on United at Old Trafford. Vidic has said that Madrid have shown a lot of weakness when it comes to creating chances against teams then defend deep and in numbers. Due to the fact that only Ronaldo is the physical player up front, there is not a lot of variation in the play for United according to Vidic. Ronaldo managed to score against his former club in the first leg with a header.

“When they play against teams who drop deep, they can have a bit of trouble because Real aren’t a team that crosses the ball a lot. If you get players behind the ball, it is difficult for them to get through and they have to shoot from distance because they don’t have many crosses. They don’t have many alternatives. They have Ronaldo, who can jump when he is in the box but he’s the only one. I don’t think the other players are good in the air,” said Vidic.

VIDIC DISAPPOINTED

The Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic has said that he is extremely disappointed along with his teammates not to have taken all three points from the recent match against Swansea. Manchester United could only manage a 1-1 draw with the Welsh team during the weekend.

As a result of the two dropped points, they are allowed their arch rivals Manchester City to close the gap to just four points in the league. United had a lot of opportunities in the match, but were unable to make them count due to a lot of blocks from Swansea.

Vidic has praised the display of the Welsh team who have been one of the surprise packages this season under the new manager Michael Laudrup. This was the first game Nemanja Vidic was playing from the start after more than three months. After struggling to contain the Premier league top scorer Michu during the early part of the game, Vidic regained his confidence that has made him one of the best defenders in the world. United have certainly missed the presence of the 30-year-old, who has been one of the best. United will now be facing Newcastle United in the home match on Boxing Day hoping to get back to winning ways.

“We had a few chances but you have to give Swansea credit as well. They fought well and gave everything to get a point out of the game. Overall, I think they played well, we had a few chances and were unlucky. We started the game well but in that 10 or 15-minute spell after we scored we dropped our performance and Swansea punished us with a goal,” said Vidic after the match. Chelsea’s victory over Aston Villa after the match meant that they closed the gap to the leaders to just 11 points.

Carrick issues Liverpool warning

Even though Liverpool may have experienced a disastrous start to the 2012/13 campaign, Michael Carrick claims that Sunday’s clash against the Anfield outfit must be taken seriously. The former Tottenham midfielder says that form goes completely out of the window for such feisty encounters and the Red Devils must be on top form if they are to succeed against their bitter rivals.

It would be fair to say that there was plenty of optimism on Merseyside following Brendan Rodgers’ appointment over the summer, yet such hopes have quickly faded following a dreadful start to the new season. The Reds are still looking for their first top flight win of the new campaign and, in a statistic that is sure to fire up the United team, they could be sent crashing to the foot of the table should results go against them this weekend.

United on the other hand have started the season relatively productively and barring that shock defeat to Everton, they will be relatively happy with their current position. The club currently find themselves in 2nd place and should results go favourably, they could actually lead the division by the end of the weekend. All of the above means that there is already plenty at stake for both outfits ahead of Sunday’s encounter.

However, Carrick has stated that the form book will well and truly go out of the window when the teams take to the field. He has warned his teammates to issue extreme caution against the Reds, telling the media, “These games are a one-off – form goes out of the window. The atmosphere is that little bit more special and the fans are certainly up for it more. The fact that Liverpool haven’t had the results they wanted so far doesn’t really come into it – that’s not on our minds. It’s about us going there and doing the right things. We’re expecting Liverpool to bring their best game and we’ll have to bring our best game too to get a result.”

VIDIC MISSES OUT

The skipper of Manchester United, Nemanja Vidic, didn’t feature for his team in the Premier League match against Liverpool which was played at Anfield on Sunday.

Everybody was shocked by Vidic’s exclusion from the team, but, after the match, Sir Alex Ferguson made it quite clear that Vidic was not dropped. He was just rested because he was having a bit of pain in his knee. He has just recovered from a serious knee injury. So, the team management decided to go into this match without him so that he could get a bit of rest.

In December 2011, Vidic had injured his knee while playing in a Champions League match against Basel. It had been confirmed later on that Vidic’s injury was quite serious and he would not be able to play for United in the remaining part of the season. Vidic made a comeback to the United squad at the start of the ongoing season, but, the Serbian defender hasn’t looked at his best in a few matches that he has played in the current season so far.

That’s why, there were speculations that Vidic was dropped due to his current form. But, in the post match press conference, Sir Alex Ferguson said that Vidic’s form had nothing to do with his exclusion from the team. Had he not felt that pain in his knee, he would definitely have been included in the first XI. He would be back for the next match against Newcastle United.

The United manager was very happy with the team’s performance against Liverpool. United won the match by 2-1. As per Ferguson, it was not an easy match. Liverpool is a very good team and they fought really hard in the match. But, it’s good that the United boys were clinical in their approach in the last 10 minutes and won the match. Hopefully, the team would continue its winning streak in the further matches as well.

VIDIC BACK IN TRAINING

The Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that the captain Nemanja Vidic is back in full training for the 2008 European cup champions.

He has also said that Nemanja Vidic is likely to be back into the first-team when Manchester United take on Everton in the opening day of the Premier league season. Manchester United failed to capture any major title last season, which was first time in four seasons that such an event was happening. This coupled with the fact that Sir Alex Ferguson also managed to see Manchester city lift the title ahead of them means that there are likely to focus more on the domestic title.

Nemanja Vidic has proven to be one of the best defenders in the country since his arrival for just £ 7 million back in 2006. However, the defender suffered a major injury midway through the last season. The triple anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered by the 31-year-old was thought to be so severe that many doubted that he would never play again. However, he is now fit and ready and is likely to be back much earlier than expected. Ferguson, though, have said that it is highly unlikely that Chris Smalling will be in the squad for the Everton match.

“Jonny has had an operation. I am not sure he will start the season but he won’t be far away. Chris Smalling has done a bit of training. The ruptured groin muscle he had certainly needed a lot of attention. He is gradually progressing and I expect him to start the season. Vidic will start the season, I am sure of that. He is still at the level of doing good amounts of training but not in the competitive sense that the others have done so it was pointless bringing him out here,” said Ferguson.

VIDIC RETURNS TO TRAINING

Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic has begun the pre-season training in a bid to return to full fitness prior to the start of the new season.

It has been reported in the last few days that Nemanja Vidic will be returning to the pre-season training much earlier than expected so that he will be able to start the season in the best possible manner. The 30-year-old defender suffered a long-term injury in the middle of the last campaign. The injury suffered in a match against FC Basel in the Champions League proved more fatal for the player.

There are also reports that this injury could force Nemanja Vidic to retire from playing football. Further, the Serbian defender has proved the strength he has within himself by returning to playing football much earlier than expected. One of the main reasons for Manchester United finishing the last season without any trophy in their hands was the absence of Nemanja Vidic. It was a disastrous season for Manchester United in many ways after they failed to win a trophy, while also they were knocked out of the European competition at very early stages. This is likely to impact the club in terms of finances this season.

As a result of not being able to compete in the latter stages of the European competition, Manchester United were not able to compete with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City when it comes to signing Eden Hazard from Lille. Ultimately, the Belgian midfielder signed for Chelsea after agreeing a contract worth around £ 170,000 per week. Manchester United then turned their attention towards a much cheaper alternative in the form of £ 12 million signing from Borussia Dortmund –Kagawa. Nemanja Vidic will also be hoping to make his international return for the World Cup qualifiers.
